About me

Woman

When it comes to talk about oneself, we tend to refer to the roles that we play as a parent, partner or occupation. Few are the times in which we refer to ourselves as individuals “per si”. Thinking about myself, I recall the times in which I referred to being a mother, almost instantly when introducing myself, forgetting that I had to exist first and foremost as a person, as an individual and in this case as a woman. Throughout life our focus is highly on the outside. We grow and learn to conform to what is expected of us from our parents, teachers, friends, relationships and society on the whole and in the process we grow further apart and drift from our true nature and essence losing touch with our inner child and life force. Being and becoming a woman is one of the marvels of nature. It is a blend of sunshine on earthly moist giving rise to life. Being a Woman is to give and celebrate life. I am a Woman.

Writer

There comes a time in life in which all of a sudden the floor beneath our feet seems to disappear and we are caught between the tangles of its thread. I faced such a moment in 2015. Facing the challenges of non -verbal autism with my son, a 20 year old young man, after years of search for the silver bullet I gave into grief and depression. However, when all seems to crumble there seems to be only two ways out: either you give in to the pain or you get up with a new stride and walk in life. My book “ A Vida é o que Fazemos Dela” (Life is what you make of it) is my response to this call and moment in life. It tells the reader about the tears I shed but also how I decided to use them to empower myself and all women who respond to the call! No Woman needs to face life alone. "Life is what you make of it" by Helen Costa is a book unveiling the warrior of a mother and woman, her growth as a human being, the love, hope and despair, ups and downs, challenges, quests, search, cure and strive to find the way..... to sum up this book talks about all that makes this up - life. Having a first person narrator, this life is almost a trip into the discovery of the sacred feminine with the author guiding us through the sharing of her grievances in a whisper close to the ear and open heart. Educator

I have 30 years' experience in the field of Education reaching a wide variety of age ranges and I feel that the education system is more and more distant from the real needs of our children and adolescents. Parents, teachers and students are drifting apart in outdated school systems, which fail to acknowledge that societies on the whole have changed and human beings have, too. Our children are no longer the children of the past, yet everyday what is demanded of them is that they be compliant with passive methods of teaching and learning. Our children and teenagers need schools that cater for individuals on the whole or have a holistic approach to learning empowering them and developing true life skills. Educating mind, body and soul is absolutely crucial. I support children and parents respond to the challenges of education and life helping the development of a holistic approach towards learning.
